The Rowdy Micks have been together since early 2002 playing
traditional Celtic music on the Treasure Coast of Florida. We have a
very diverse repertoire of music spanning from the beautiful and
delicate music of Turlough O'Carolan to the wild and crazy drinking
songs.
Mick Geever, our piper and lead
singer, brings an air of authenticity to the ensemble with his great
love of the traditions associated with Ireland and his virtuoso
treatment of the Uilleann Pipes, Penny Whistles and above all, the
Baroque Flute. Mick is a walking encyclopedia of Irish songs and
tunes. His quest to find "new" (actually so old that no one even
knows who wrote it, but it is new to us) and exciting music has been
our source of vitality.
John Millroy, our newest member,
has been a welcome addition to the line up, bringing a great love
for the wild and crazy drinking songs. His tasteful use of various
percussion instruments and lead and back up vocals are a big
attraction.
Kathy Porter-Zogran, who plays
fiddle, has a major impact on the bands creative process. She is our
program director and plays a very big role in our arrangements. Her
fiddling is characterized by her skillful ornamentations that breathe
a unique breath of life into our music.
Peggie O'Neill, also on fiddle, is
also a relative newcomer to the band. She brings a new dimension to
our music as she has a beautiful tone that has proven to be
indispensable for the slower airs and melodic pieces. Her musical
accomplishments are far too numerous to list here, but for starters,
she is the founder of Bach's Children Music School and is the
Concert Mistress of the Treasure Coast Pops. Her students have
reached the top of there profession and her many new and exciting
students continue to rate at the top in the area.
Rowdy Carlton, the guitarist and back up
vocalist for the band, rounds out the line up. His sense of rhythm
and full voiced accompaniments are the backbone of The Rowdy Micks
sound. His mastery of classical guitar technique and familiarity
with a wide range of music gives him the ability to create very
imaginative, extemporaneous and lushly textured accompaniments that
are particular well suited to airs.
